About Norm
My name is Norm Melichar. I am of Czech, German and English decent, and according to my grandmother, my relatives in the old country were all very creative people. Our history is full of musicians and artists, and she hinted with a twinkle in her eye, even circus people! I knew then that art would be a part of me.
True to my heritage, I became an “artist” at a very early age. I remember my grandma putting things in my hands to make and create. There was a time I spent hours pinning sequins onto foam eggs. I was so proud of those eggs, they hung from the chandelier every Easter. Grandma loved art, and created masterpieces out of nothing. She saw beauty in the simplest things. She recycled the most common items, and from that we created “art”. Little did I know that I would draw from these early lessons much later in my life.
For many years, my art was “secret” from the world outside my family. At one point, just by chance, I was invited to a study group of “The Artist’s Way”. It was a life changing event. I came to understand why I was keeping my art to myself. I made art goals, came to understand my art is great, creative and desirable. It is unique. The only person holding me back was ME!
I began donating art to charitable organizations, and found that my work was often in the top five highest bids. I took my art to a gallery and have been showing ever since. I have installations in public schools, The headquarters of Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Philadelphia, RSM McGladrey Inc. in Denver as well as many homes and offices.
